Ball is a game released in 1980 for the Game & Watch, it is the first Game & Watch handheld, and is the first in the Silver series, it was originally known as Toss-Up in North America. It has been released in multiple compilations and by itself, including being in Game Boy Gallery, Game & Watch Gallery 2, as well as cameos in Game Boy Camera and Kanji Sonomama DS Rakubiki Jiten, a digital release on the Nintendo DSi in 2009, and a re-release of the original psychical version via Club Nintendo in 2010.
Gameplay
Before starting the game, the player can choose to either play Game A or Game B, or have it display the time. In Game A and Game B, the player has to juggle balls as long as they can, getting points each time they catch a ball. In Game A, there are two balls and the player gets one point every time they catch a ball, and in Game B, there are three balls and the player gets ten points every time they catch a ball. If the player chooses to have it display the time, it will display the time in the top right (where the score is normally it) while the character juggles a single ball.
Ports/Re-releases
Ball has been ported multiple times, first, it was in Game Boy Gallery, where the gameplay is the same, but if the player gets 100 points, cheerleaders will appear, and getting 200 points will make balancers on balls appear, the game also has a story that connects to the other games in the collection, a person wants to work at the circus, but to get the job, they have to prove they can juggle, and the circus provides arm extensions to make it easier, the jugglers starts slowly, but they have to go faster to impress the employers, they don't get the job, so they try a different job which is the one in Vermin.
Ball has also appeared in the Game & Watch Gallery series, first appearing in the first Game & Watch Gallery as a game in the Gallery Corner that can be unlocked by getting 400 points in the modern version of Manhole, it can be unlocked in the Gallery Corners (renamed to the Museum in Game & Watch Gallery 2 in Game & Watch Gallery 2 and Game & Watch Gallery 3 by linking the games to Game & Watch Gallery, but it doesn't appear in Game & Watch Gallery 4.
Game & Watch Gallery 2 is the only one out of the four to have Ball as a playable game, it is the only one to have to be unlocked with the classic version opening first when the player has 15 stars and the modern version opening when the player has 25 stars. In the modern version, the player starts with a version where they play as a light blue Yoshi bouncing eggs with a tennis racket (labeled as Y), when the player gets 35 stars, they get the ability to change the version by pressing up on the Modern screen, starting with a Mario version (labeled as M) where he bounces a Super Star and a Super Mushroom in the easy version and a Super Star, Super Mushroom, and a heart in the hard version. When the player gets 45 stars, they unlock a version with Wario (labeled as W) where he bounces a Wanderin' Goom and a Super Star in the easy version and a Wanderin' Goom, Super Star, and a heart in the hard version. When the player gets 100 stars, the unlock the final version with Bowser (labeled as K, mostly likely to refer to him as King Koopa) where he bounces a [[Koopa Shell] and a Boo in the easy version and a Koopa Shell, Boo, and a Goomba in the hard version. At 100 points for Yoshi, 200 points for Mario, 300 points for Wario, and 400 points for Bowser, coins will fall down and collecting all of them gives an extra 20 points, and sometimes, a Bob-omb (Fireball for Mario and a Spiked Ball for Wario) will appear and if the player catches it, the game ends.
Ball has also made cameos in some games, such as Game Boy Camera where it can be found in the play section, it uses the player's face or two preset photos and it also has two music tracks, it is also required for 100% since you get pictures at 300 points, 700 points, and 1,000 points. It also appears in a Japanese DS game called Kanji Sonomama DS Rakubiki Jiten, a English dictionary developed and published by Nintendo, if the player types "Ball", an entry simply called "BALL" appears and touching it starts a game of Ball with the options of the original version included, Flagman, Judge, and Manhole are also included.
