====''Super Mario 64 DS''====

Yoshi found himself to be the primary hero in ''[[Super Mario 64 DS]]''. During this adventure, Princess Peach decided to invite [[Mario]], [[Luigi]] and even [[Wario]] to [[Princess Peach's Castle|her castle]]. Coincidentally, Yoshi was sleeping on the roof of the castle when the trio of heroes arrived.

Unfortunately, Bowser had arrived at the castle before Mario, Luigi, and Wario. The Koopa King and his forces had stolen the castle's [[Power Star]]s, the magical artifacts that protect Peach's Castle. With the power of these stars, Bowser planned to take over the castle. To do this, Bowser intended to convert the denizens of the worlds accessed via the paintings in Peach's Castle into monsters. With these newfound forces, Bowser was then going to attack the castle, and, potentially, the entire Mushroom Kingdom. With the Power Stars under his control, Bowser captured not only Peach and [[Toad (character)|Toad]], but Mario, Luigi, and Wario as well. As such, it was up to Yoshi to free his imprisoned allies and rescue the Princess from Bowser's clutches.

In ''[[New Super Mario Bros.]]'', Yoshi appears in some of the minigames, such as [[Loves Me...?]], which returns from ''Super Mario 64 DS''. Yoshi also appears in some added minigames, like [[Balloon Racing]].

Yoshi himself does not appear in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'' – however, there are three notable Yoshi references.

*When starting a file, the player is given the choice of what character head they want to resemble the "''planet''" that is their save file, and one of the heads is Yoshi's.

*In the [[Good Egg Galaxy]], there is a planet that resembles a Yoshi egg.

*A wooden planet that is carved into the shape of Yoshi's head appears in the [[Space Junk Galaxy]]. The mission in which [[Mario]] retrieves a [[star]] on this planet is even titled "''Yoshi's Unexpected Appearance.''"

When one player is riding a Yoshi, Yoshi drums are added to the music. Yoshi can flutter jump, such as in previous titles, and has his usual tongue ability. He can easily eat an normal enemy such as a Goomba or Piranha Plant.  If Yoshi eats a shell enemy, Yoshi can't swallow it, so the player can spit the shell out. If Yoshi eats a [[Venus Fire Trap]], he will be able to spit out a fireball, or he will spit out an ice ball if he eats an ice ball from an [[Ice Bro.]]  Not only that, but Yoshi can also eat a hammer thrown by a [[Hammer Bro.]] and spit it right back.  Yoshi can also jump on certain enemies that players wouldn't normally jump on, though it won't affect the enemies in any way. If Yoshi is struck by an enemy without swallowing or jumping on it, he will drop the player and run about until the player regains control of him. If not stopped, Yoshi may run off of a cliff and into a hole.

[[Berry|Berries]] can be found in the levels that Yoshi appears in, and if Yoshi eats 5 berries, he will lay an egg that holds an item. This happens also if Yoshi eats a [[Pokey]] while it is covered in leaves. At the end of a level, past the flagpole, Mario, Luigi, Yellow Toad, and/or Blue Toad will run off, and Yoshi will just wave goodbye.

====''Super Mario Galaxy 2''====

Yoshi has been shown to have the ability to perform [[Flutter|flutter jumps]], but he lacks the ability to do triple jumps.  He can also eat things by targeting them with the Wii Remote, and by pressing the B button, but for a price, players can't use [[Star Bit]]s while on Yoshi.  If the player wants to stop riding Yoshi, he/she must hold down Z and press A.  On a side note, Yoshi can swim in this game, but he can't dive underwater.  Also, Yoshi can't do [[Ground Pound|ground pounds]], which is ironic, since he was able to do ground pounds in earlier games.

Also, like in the past games, if Mario takes damage while on Yoshi, Yoshi will run off.
